A Reflection:

Is the curve of your cheek softer than mine?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Is the smell of your skin sweeter than mine?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Do your eyes sparkle and shine more than mine?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Do you wish for a finer life, a tougher skin, a slimmer line?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Can you see the beauty in the other, she who is different from you?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Do you waste your precious life-minutes belittling another?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Can you see past the skin and scars and sordid stories to see the beauty of the beauty sitting next to you?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Can you see the purpose sewn into the fiber of your being by the Great Hand, and can you follow the line of the divine handiwork in the woman chatting across the table, the woman standing across the room?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Can you fathom that your beauty surpasses them all… and so does hers?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Can you press yourself to know and to be known, to risk yourself for the sake of loving another, to taste without fear the culture, the language, the ideas, the song of she who is different from you – not to be like her… but to see her. To value her.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Did you know that the best life is the one lived outside of the circus tent of feminine competition and suspicion?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Did you know that there are women who are capable of appreciating your beauty without theirs being threatened, who can applaud your success without subterfuge, who can celebrate your life’s joys without  bitterness of spirit?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Strive to be one.

“If I speak with the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”  1 Corinthians 13:1-3

He is with you!
